Description from the seller
Lars Larsson — sculptural candlestick with Ginkgo leaf forms — signed
For sale is an exceptional, large sculptural candlestick by the Swedish smith and metal artist Lars Larsson (born 1950), signed “L. Larsson”.
The 40 cm tall single piece impresses with its pronounced organic, nature-inspired design. The slim, tall shaft carries a large, irregularly wavy candle dish. Particularly characteristic is the elaborately designed foot with several fan-shaped, reliefed leaves, whose form and the pronounced venation resemble stylized Ginkgo leaves.
The surface clearly shows the handiwork in metal. Hammering and finishing marks are visible, giving the object a very distinctive, sculptural character. The warm reddish-brown surface is accompanied by darker areas and a beautiful green-blue patina.
The work is signed at the transition between base and shaft with “L. Larsson”.
Lars Larsson is a Swedish smith and metal artist. He was born in 1950 and has worked in his own workshop since 1978. In addition to traditional metalworking, he created sculptural and decorative metal works and used different metals.
The design of this candlestick combines traditional metal craftsmanship with a distinctly organic formal language. The fan-shaped leaves recall Ginkgo and give the piece a special closeness to nature. The design also shows echoes of the decorative natural-form language of Jugendstil (Art Nouveau), without the object itself being attributed to historic Art Nouveau.
Material
The object appears to consist of a copper-containing metal alloy, presumably bronze. The reddish-copper color, the visible green oxidation traces, and the non-magnetic surface suggest a copper alloy.
A metallurgical analysis was not performed. The material designation “Bronze” should therefore be understood as an attribution.
Dimensions
* Overall height: approx. 40 cm
* Foot: approx. 17 × 12.5 cm
* upper candle dish: approx. 10.5 cm diameter
* candle socket: approx. 2 cm diameter
* Weight: approx. 1,472 g
Condition
Good used vintage condition with age- and wear-related traces.
The piece carries a characterful, partly green patina. Small irregularities, oxidation traces, and visible finishing traces belong to the handmade character of the work. In some areas there are light abrasions or signs of wear.
The original patina has been preserved and not polished to a high gloss.
