Description from the seller
Elevate your table with this magnificent set of 10 vintage earthenware knife rests, authentic creations from the famous French manufactory Saint-Clément.
Their timeless twisted design is adorned with a superb glossy turquoise blue glaze, highlighted by a delicate gold thread that adds refined detail to each spiral.
Features:
• Saint-Clément earthenware (Vintage twisted model).
• Glazed earthenware with gold accents.
• About 9.5 cm in length (see photo with measuring tape), perfect for elegantly stabilizing your cutlery.
• 10 pieces.
In the photo you will notice that the ends of these pieces reveal the white unfired clay. This is a typical signature of ceramic work related to the firing process. Firing involves placing the pieces in the kiln before firing. During the glaze firing (which reaches over 1000°C), the colored layer vitrifies and becomes liquid. If glaze touched the kiln shelf, the piece would fuse to it. The potter must therefore deliberately leave the base of the piece unglazed so it can rest in the kiln without sticking. It is the mark of traditional craftsmanship!
For complete transparency, one of the knife rests shows a tiny glaze loss on the unglazed side, less than 2 mm. This minuscule firing flaw, very common on older pieces from this manufacturer, is completely invisible once the item is on the table and does not affect the overall beauty of the set.
