AI-assisted summary
Description from the seller
Presented is a particularly large and decorative ceramic sculpture by Dutch ceramic artist Leo van Olffen.
This chicken is an exceptional example within his oeuvre, in which he typically crafts animals in a much smaller size of only a few centimeters.
The sculpture stands out for its impressive dimensions and the beautiful, vivid glaze finish. The combination of intense blue, turquoise, dark brown and earth tones creates a rich play of color, with subtle transitions and a lovely glossy surface.
The meticulously detailed feathers, the characteristic comb, and the expressive form give the sculpture a pronounced sculptural character.
With a depth of 20.5 cm, a width of 20 cm and a height of 13 cm, this is an exceptionally large specimen compared to Van Olffen's usually very small animal figures.
An striking collectible that will appeal to both ceramics enthusiasts and collectors of his work.

About the ceramicist
Leo van Olffen is a Dutch ceramist who runs his studio in Wanneperveen, Overijssel, where he creates ceramic objects. His work includes vases and small, hand-formed animal figures. Form, texture and glaze play important roles. His animal figures are often produced in modest size, which makes this exceptionally large chicken sculpture, with dimensions of about 20 cm, stand out all the more. The vibrant blue-turquoise glaze sections and the contrasting earth tones give the sculpture a distinctly own character.
