Christofle / Orfèvrerie Gallia – Elegant oval silver-plated centerpiece, model 4685 – France, early 20th century

Refined oval basket by Orfèvrerie Gallia, the historic maker belonging to Maison Christofle, distinguished by its rich Louis XV-style decoration and Rococo inspiration.

The shaped rim unfolds in a harmonious succession of raised scrolls and acanthus leaves, while delicate vegetal branches embellish the inner walls and frame the oval base. The contrast between the luminous surfaces and sculpted details gives the piece an elegant presence on the table.

The Gallia line holds a significant place in Christofle’s history for the variety of its creations and its particular attention to forms and decorative elements. This model expresses its ornamental style through generous proportions and workmanship with a striking three-dimensional effect.

It bears the “O. GALLIA” hallmark, model number 4685, and the goat’s head hallmark attributed to the Alfénide manufactory: a combination consistent with production dating approximately from 1908 to 1929.

Ideal as a centerpiece, an elegant bread basket, or a decorative accent for a classic table.

Condition:
Very good overall, with a bright silver-plated surface and well-preserved decoration. It has light surface scratches and minor signs of use and polishing, consistent with its age. A few minor variations on the inner surface may be attributable to previous localized repairs to the silver plating, which are undocumented.

No extensive losses to the silver plating are visible on the exposed surfaces. Two small areas of wear to the silver plating are located on the underside, at the contact points, and are not visible during normal use.
