A pair of antique tin Stegkannen, estimated to date from the late 19th century.
Description from the seller
Two beautiful and characterful 18th-century tin spout jugs (also known as Stegkannen or trois-pieds) from the late Louis XV period (ca. 1760–1790).
This charming, smaller size of about 18.5 cm high was used on the table to keep hot milk or coffee warm and to pour over a small warming stand.
Although the two jugs were made separately, they form a particularly beautiful and harmonious pair due to their nearly identical scale, the classic pear-shaped (baluster-form) body, and the fine, even age patina:
Jug with acorn knop and wooden ball feet:
Finished with a profiled domed lid with cast tin acorn knop and vent hole. Equipped with a strong S-shaped handle with a bent console projection at the bottom. On the front, an original brass tap with a richly decorated crowned tap-key. The jug rests on three Cabriole legs that still have the original black-painted turned wooden ball feet (intended to protect the tabletop from heat at the time).
Jug with wooden lid knop and tin hoof feet:
Finished with a profiled domed lid, crowned by a tall raised turned black-painted wooden knop with tin top (total height including this taller knob slightly above 18.5 cm). Equipped with a slender S-shaped handle with a thumb rest, three graceful Cabriole legs ending in tin ball/hoof feet, and an original brass tap with a cloverleaf-shaped grip.
Dimensions:
Height: approx. 18.5 cm
Condition:
In good, honest, and unrestored antique condition with a beautiful, warm grey patina. Both taps and loose lids are complete and fit well. Normal, charming signs of age and use appropriate for a piece about 250 years old (including a small dent in the wall and light rim wear on the lid, see detail photos).
