An antique 19th-century copper and brass cauldron with an ornately decorated brass tripod stand, in good condition with minor signs of age.
Description from the seller
Antique Copper Caldron with Brass Tripod – 19th Century
Important antique brass caldron with a wide circular body and an elegant brass tripod stand, richly decorated with ornamental motifs.
The structure features a large copper basin with a rounded, slightly bulged shape, a wide upper opening and folded rim. The surface shows traditional metalworking, with irregularities and hammer marks that give the piece an authentic, artisanal character.
Particularly distinctive are the metal reinforcing bands applied along the outer circumference, fixed with numerous visible rivets. These elements, in addition to their structural function, contribute to the robust and decorative aesthetics of the whole.
The caldron is equipped with three metal handles distributed along the edge and lateral surface, designed with simple, functional forms that recall the object's original purpose.
Of particular value is the brass tripod, composed of three elegant, curved legs finely worked with vegetal motifs, volutes and relief decorations. The legs, characterized by a sinuous flow, terminate in classically styled feet, giving the piece a refined and stage-ready appearance.
The tripod structure also features radial metal connecting elements intended to support the weight of the vessel and ensure stability.
The copper surface preserves a suggestive patina in warm reddish-brown tones, with diffuse oxidations, darker shades and signs of use, testimony to the material's aging. The brass elements also show a natural patina that further enhances the decorative details.
Originally attributable to the typology of large metallic containers intended for domestic or functional uses, the caldron today can be used as a large decorative brazier, firewood holder, coal container, or as an interior dramatic planter.
An object with great presence from its era, particularly appreciated for its substantial size, the striking contrast between copper and brass, and the richness of the tripod’s work. Ideal for rustic interiors, historic houses, rooms with fireplaces, or spaces furnished with antique furniture and accessories.
