Description from the seller
Lot of antique silverware and Silverplate - Elegant Table Service (Mappin & Webb, Gorham and others) - 10 Pieces
Splendid assorted tea and tableware collection consisting of 10 pieces from the early/mid 20th century in fine silverplate (Silverplate / Prince's Plate), produced by important historic British, American, and Italian manufacturers of the era.
1. Five (5) serving trays with fluted edge.
Objects are completely smooth at the center, embellished with an elegant edge finished with a fluted motif. They are completely free of marks, stamps, or engravings. Each plate has a different weight from the others (for a total of 982 grams), evidence of a carefully crafted artisanal manufacture of the period.
• Dimensions: Diameter 15.5 cm.
• Total Weight: 982 grams (the set of 5 pieces).
2. Two (2) serving plates in Sheffield Floral Style
• Details: Characterized by shaped ribs and edges richly finished with raised floral decorations. On the bottom it bears the inscription Sheffield, the monogrammed mark “GR” with a star and the reference letters “PD.”
• Dimensions: Diameter 14 cm.
• Total Weight: 150 grams (the pair).
3. Warmer-plate with cloche - Mappin & Webb (London & Sheffield)
• Material: Fine Prince's Plate (the exclusive high-quality electroplating patented by Mappin & Webb) with triple silver deposit.
• Details: Official factory stamp with shield and serial number W 27781. Shows obvious signs of age on the lid.
• Dimensions: Width 19.5 cm, Height 14 cm.
• Weight: 740 grams.
4. Water carafe - Newport by Gorham (USA)
• Material: Silverplate - Electroplated (EP) of excellent quality.
• Details: Historic archival model YB-600, still bears the original red adhesive label of the Newport by Gorham line on the bottom, in addition to the engraved metal mark. Equipped with upper metal flaps (the original hinged lid is missing) and a discrepancy in the spout.
• Dimensions: Height 24 cm, Width 20 cm.
• Weight: 775 grams.
5. Large Baroque-style oval serving tray - Rococo Revival
• Material: Silver-plated metal.
• Details: Beautiful geometrically shaped edge richly worked, featuring wide shell motifs, embossed scrolls, and raised floral details. Item is completely unpunched, with strong visual presence. Exhibits a warm and natural patina of time in the recessed edge details.
• Dimensions: Length 39 cm, Width 31 cm, Height 1 cm.
• Weight: 624 grams.
Condition of the Lot
Status: Good structural condition and overall conservation. Normal and charming patinas of natural oxidation due to age are evident, as well as the absence of the Gorham carafe lid, the absence of silvering on the warmer lid, and typical signs of time including wear marks and scratches from use—details that certify authenticity and the vintage character of the pieces without compromising their original beauty.
Please carefully review the attached photo gallery, which forms an integral part of the description, to verify the construction details and the conservation state of the pieces.
