Description from the seller

Female statuette, Ewe culture, Ghana. Height 38 cm.

Beautiful female statuette from Ghana. The figure has a strong presence; the body is tense, the figure seems awake, head thrust forward, alert. The face is captivating, the gaze determined and lively. The mouth, slightly open, has been nourished; its patina indicates this. The face is the most refined part, the rest of the body, with pleasing volumes, is carved more simply. Wooden hoops ornament her ears. The white color comes from the wood used as well as from the application of kaolin powder. A beautiful, old and authentic collectible piece. Circa 1960.
