Description from the seller
GERMANY. Westphalia. 100 Mark. 1923.
- Value: 100 Mark.
- Year: 1923.
- Inscriptions: Obverse: ANNETTE VON DROSTE-HÜLSHOFF · 1797–1848 · ANNETTE DROSTE-HÜLSHOFF. Reverse: NOTGELD · PROVINCE WESTFALEN · 100 MARK · 1923.
- Grade: UNC Details (NGC).
Coin issued as Notgeld by the Prussian province of Westphalia during the German hyperinflation of 1923. The obverse features the portrait of Annette von Droste-Hülshoff (1797-1848), one of the most important writers and poets of German literature, depicted in profile with an elegant sculptural treatment and surrounded by her name and biographical dates. The reverse shows the prancing horse, a traditional symbol of Westphalia, accompanied by the inscription Notgeld, the province name, the face value of 100 Mark and the issue date. The specimen preserves much of the original details and surfaces with an attractive appearance, although it has been graded by NGC as UNC Details due to a cleaning process (Cleaned), a circumstance that affects the numismatic certification without concealing the excellent preservation of the reliefs. This issue forms part of the well-known series of Notgeld from Westphalia, minted to alleviate the currency shortage during the hyperinflation crisis of 1923, constituting a notable historical testimony of one of the most severe monetary episodes of the 20th century.

This is a customs legal procedure and it is completely out of our control. Thanks for your understanding.
