An early 20th-century British Wernicke-style barrister’s bookcase in oak, with four stacked modular sections and lift-and-slide glass doors, measuring 145 × 85 × 30 cm.
Description from the seller
Modular four-section wall unit/display cabinet of Anglo-Saxon manufacture, with glass doors that lift and slide inward into the module, in the sectional/barrister’s bookcase system.
Material: Oak with a handsome, pronounced grain; glass and metal hardware.
Dimensions: 145 × 85 × 30 cm.
A vertical piece with a sober, clean line, featuring smooth surfaces and four stacked modules. The glass doors, set in wooden frames, once raised slide inward, freeing the compartment. Photos of the dismantled piece clearly document the modular construction system, the paneled back, the joints, and the internal hardware. The inner bottom has a small repeated motif of lily/fleur-de-lis.
Top cap shaped, moulded base, and small front knobs; numerical marks on the back are presumably mounting references.
Condition: Excellent, with patina and normal signs of use consistent with age.
Structure, internal mechanisms, frames, and glass are well preserved; slight superficial wear without evident structural compromise.
Dating: Early 20th century, circa 1900–1920. Attribution to Globe-Wernicke or any other specific manufacturer is not confirmed in the absence of a mark or label.
Provenance: from an ancient private collection of the Premoli family, later Premoli Silva, a historic Lombard noble family of ancient origin; the piece has been preserved and handed down within the family collections through multiple generations, up to the current ownership by descent.
