Description from the seller
Centerpiece basket with a shaped rim featuring a geometric floral motif and a swinging handle attached by side pins. Made of alpaca silver by Davis and Sons, bearing the maker’s mark for Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom. Reference model 41 51, stamped on the base. Dating from the early 1900s, approximately 1908–1910. An eclectic late Victorian style, it reprises the characteristic shapes of historical solid-silver bread baskets from the George II period (18th century), which became very fashionable in British middle-class homes from the late 19th to the early 20th century, thanks in particular to the growing availability of more affordable silver-plated objects. An excellent collector’s item. It comes with a certificate of authenticity attached to the basket when the photographs were taken; the photographs form an integral part of the description.
