Includes Certificate from the Herman Brood Museum
This drawing by Herman Brood has the character of a spontaneous visual collage. With brown lines he brings together faces, figures, loose words and winding shapes. The direct, unpolished drawing style gives the work movement: it seems as if thoughts and observations were immediately put on paper.
What stands out is the combination of image and text. You can see, among other things, ‘Turn Blue’, ‘Rock Ape’, ‘Budweiser’ and at the bottom ‘The end of the road’. Those loose phrases evoke associations with music, nightlife, and life on the road — subjects that fit well with Brood’s world. The large head on the right and the smaller figures make the composition almost a comic strip, but without a fixed storyline.
