This 17 cm botryoidal chalcedony specimen from Poona (now Pune), Maharashtra, India, is covered with drusy quartz and rests on a natural basalt matrix.
Description from the seller
Description
An impressive large cabinet specimen of botryoidal chalcedony from the historic Poona (now Pune) region of Maharashtra, India.
The specimen features numerous rounded and elongated chalcedony formations in delicate bluish-white and pale grey tones, covered with a sparkling druse of tiny quartz crystals.
Several transparent to pale honey-coloured crystals, possibly calcite, are beautifully positioned among the chalcedony formations, adding an attractive contrast in colour and crystal habit.
Particularly interesting are the exposed sections of chalcedony, displaying distinctive concentric, eye-like patterns in shades of grey, greenish-grey and white.
The specimen rests on its natural dark basalt matrix, creating a striking contrast with the lighter mineral formations.
Provenance: From an old private mineral collection, accompanied by the original historical label reading "CALCEDON – PONA INDIEN."
Condition: Well-preserved overall, with natural contact areas, irregular edges and possible minor chips consistent with the specimen's complex crystal growth. No obvious repairs are visible.
