Antique Italian wooden wall candle sconce, hand-carved and pierced with gilded-leaf decoration in a late Baroque/Rococo style.
Description from the seller
Elegant antique eighteenth-century candlestick arm in wood, finely hand-carved and adorned with a precious gold leaf finish. The object is characterized by a rich, deep decoration with foliate motifs and large volutes, splendid expression of the plastically minded taste of the late Baroque / Rococo.
The artifact shows a beautiful craftsmanship: the sinuously moving structure and the acanthus leaf carving create a fascinating scenographic play. The applied decorative technique alternates the brilliance of gold leaf gilding on the relief-carved parts with a dark contrasting background, which enhances the depth of the three-dimensional decoration.
The upper part of the nozzle-holder (the part that holds the candle) shows refined artisanal cabinetmaking work, characterized by radial perforated carvings and the manual hewing of the wood. In the center is the original hole intended to host the metal pin for fixing the candle or the wax drip.
This element, originally conceived as a wall applique or wall-mounted candle arm of its era, now presents itself as a sought-after high-era decorative object, ideal to embellish classical interiors or to be inserted as a refined accent piece in contemporary and eclectic contexts.
On the back is preserved the coeval metal pin/hook for wall mounting. The object presents itself in a magnificent original patina of the time that testifies to its authenticity and high historical value.
