Description from the seller
Magnificent antique brass vanity mirror – Louis XV / Rocaille style – Circa 1900 – 39 × 28 cm
Superb antique brass vanity mirror, dating probably from the late 19th or early 20th century, around 1900, featuring a magnificent decorative work inspired by Louis XV.
This very elegant dressing-table mirror is distinguished by its richly ornamental oval frame, composed of delicate chased friezes, vegetal motifs and sumptuous openwork volutes characteristic of the Rocaille style.
Its upper part is crowned by a superb decorative entablature with spirals, adorned with a central medallion, giving it a particularly refined look.
The mirror is mounted on two finely worked side supports, decorated with small turned elements and decorative handles.
Its pivoting system allows tilting the glass to the desired angle.
The lower part is especially remarkable, with a magnificent set of openwork volutes connecting the frame to an elegant central pedestal.
The whole rests on a massive oval brass plinth, delicately chased along its edge and finished with four richly decorated curved feet.
The reverse preserves its old brown protective panel, held by small metal fasteners.
The brass shows a beautiful natural patina with golden and browned nuances, which emphasizes the relief of its numerous ornaments and gives it all its character.
Condition
Good overall condition for its age.
Presence of time and use traces, notably a few scratches, marks, small oxidation spots and patina variations on the brass.
The mirror is presented in its current state, with its old patina preserved.
