Description from the seller
Eames Plastic Armchair RE RAR - Dark Maple Base Chair
Eames Plastic RE RAR is a rocking chair collection designed by Charles & Ray Eames and manufactured by Vitra. Steel wire frame with crossed supports, chrome-plated or powder-coated, with legs made of solid maple wood. The shell is made of recycled, pigmented polypropylene.
The Eames Plastic Side Chair was the first mass-produced plastic chair; after its debut in the Museum of Modern Art's Low-Cost Furniture Design competition in 1948, the Plastic Armchair and the Plastic Side Chair entered the market in the 1950s.
Since 2024, the shells of the Eames Plastic Chairs have been made from recycled plastic; this material comes from recycling household waste, especially packaging, collected under Germany's Yellow Bag program. Using this feedstock instead of oil-based virgin plastic results in fewer climate-damaging emissions and significantly reduces primary energy consumption. Due to the material composition, the colors of the seat shells show very few pigment specks. Since the new material cannot be produced in white, the white version continues to be made from 100% recyclable polypropylene.
