Description from the seller
The Calacatta marble column stands out for its elegant veining and is composed of three perfectly aligned sections, creating a striking visual effect.
The lower label bears the heading Ruggieri & Figli, historic Tuscan manufacturing workshops, accompanied by the inscription "Turismo" and "Volterra" (partially visible under the fold), which confirms 100% the geographic and manufacturing origin in Volterra (Pisa), a Tuscan excellence in artisanal marble workmanship and a symbol of artisanal mastery in the working of Calacatta marble".
The second label with the number 189 handwritten in blue ink represents the old catalog number, inventory or original price at a fair/store of the era.
Definitive Identification and History
The wording "Turismo" combined with Volterra production places this piece precisely in the period of the Italian economic and tourist boom, between the late 1960s and the 1970s. At that time, Volterra’s historic artisanal workshops opened large showrooms dedicated to Italian and foreign visitors who wished to buy precious "travel" accessories for their homes.
The column is therefore not a mass industrial piece, but a certified Italian artisanal work from Volterra, turned and finished by hand starting from a block.
