This Italian vintage industrial-design storage container, dating from 1950–1960, is made of galvanised sheet metal and measures 53 × 41 × 41 cm.
Description from the seller
Antique kitchen drum/container - Pantry for flours and grains – Mid 20th Century
Large and imposing cylindrical drum from a rural and kitchen setting, dating to the mid-20th century (circa 1950), originally used in large pantries, shops, or mills for the dry storage of flours, seeds, cereals, or bulk feeds.
The most notable structural feature of this piece is the flat top lid, symmetrically divided in half by a solid piano hinge. This specific design, not being an airtight seal for liquids, was conceived to allow partial, quick, and frequent access to the contents. By lifting just one half of the lid, one could easily scoop flour with a paddle or measuring cups, while keeping the reserve protected from dust and rodents.
The object shows robust handmade construction, highlighted by the thick vertical weld line along the body. Externally it preserves its characteristic vintage color with a hammered finish. The external bottom is structurally sound and still bears the original factory red anti-rust oxide layer, applied to insulate the metal from floor moisture. Completing the drum are the front steel snap closure and two sturdy hinged side handles for transport.
A genuine vintage rural piece in excellent condition, today ideal for collectors or as an exclusive decorative storage element in Industrial or Rustic Chic style.
Material: Galvanized sheet metal with steel hardware
Excellent vintage condition. Solid, sound, and dry construction. External and internal surfaces show normal signs of use and time, clearly visible in the gallery.
