Description from the seller
Traditional short sword or combat knife of the Mongo peoples (often attributed to subgroups such as the Konda, Saka, or Ngandu) from the Congo Basin of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Such artfully forged pieces in the 19th and early 20th centuries served not only as status symbols and ceremonial objects for dignitaries, but were also used across wide parts of Central Africa as a traditional form of currency (primitive money / sword currency), for example for significant transactions such as dowries.
