The Singer Personal 5500 is a working vintage portable typewriter from the 1970s–1980s, with individually painted floral and graphic motifs, its original hard case, and signs of age and stains.
Description from the seller
Original and unique vintage portable Singer Personal 5500 typewriter with its original hard carrying case and characterized by floral and graphic motifs painted separately
Main features
• Model: Singer Personal 5500
• Period: 1970s–1980s
• Conditions and customization: The original model, usually in solid orange, features artistic decorations applied to the housing
The Singer Personal 5500 was produced between the early 1970s and the early 1980s, and even though the Singer name is indissolubly linked to historic sewing machines, from the 1960s onward the company diversified its production by applying its brand to other office devices and household appliances. The mechanics of this specific line of typewriters were not produced directly by Singer, but by partner or subcontractor companies (often under license or based on Smith Corona or Royal frames depending on the markets).
The "Personal" model focused entirely on portability and on an aesthetically Space Age and eclectic design of the era, favoring rigid ABS plastic cases in bright, pop colors, particularly orange, bright red and yellow.
