Description from the seller
Refined Luxury Ashtray in 800 Sterling Silver - Milan Workshop (Lab. 572 MI) - Hammered Design with Beaded Rim - Italy, Mid-20th CenturyA splendid and sophisticated solid silver tabletop ashtray, made in Milan in the mid-20th century. A high-end decorative accessory that perfectly combines functionality with the unparalleled charm of vintage objects bearing the hallmark of Milan’s historic goldsmithing tradition.
Design, Craftsmanship and Details:
Shape and Structure: Elegant geometric square base with gently rounded corners, a domed profile and a dedicated side notch for holding a cigarette.
Exterior Finish: Fine, entirely hand-hammered finish (dappled effect), a highly skilled artisanal technique that catches the light beautifully and gives the piece a striking tactile and visual three-dimensionality.
**Rim:**embellished around the perimeter with a regular, finely finished beaded motif inspired by Neoclassical design.
Interior: Smooth, mirror-polished inner surface, complete with the iconic central circular recess typical of this refined category of collectible objects.
Marks, Hallmarks and Authenticity:
The object bears the legally required official hallmarks, unequivocally attesting to its origin and quality:
The “800” hallmark enclosed in an oval, certifying the silver fineness (800/1000).
The identifying hallmark 572 MI, which unequivocally links it to a goldsmith’s workshop registered in the Milan district.
Condition and Notes:
The object is in excellent vintage condition, enhanced by its natural, authentic patina. For full transparency to collectors, please note the presence of a tiny, very light surface mark (a minor imperfection that is almost invisible and can only be detected in reflected light or from certain angles), which has no impact whatsoever on the piece’s remarkable aesthetic appeal or structural integrity, but is mentioned here for completeness. (Please examine all the detailed photographs in the gallery carefully).
