Statue - Azande - DR Congo

This sale offers an assemblage of works from the studio of a Belgian painter, gathered over time through his discoveries, encounters and affinities. The artists have often maintained a privileged link with the arts of the primitive; sensitive to the strength of forms, to the simplicity of volumes and to the expressiveness of the materials, they were among the first to look at these objects differently from mere curiosities. Their eye, naturally attentive to lines and balance, led them to collect these works and, sometimes, to draw inspiration from them. This collection thus bears witness to an intimate dialogue between artistic creation, the eye of the collector and a fascination with forms coming from elsewhere.
