Description from the seller

Pietà, after Our Lady of Lede – oak – Belgium – circa 1920–1950

Professionally shipped – over 1,000 five-star reviews worldwide.

Carved oak sculpture of Mary with the dead body of Christ on her lap. With her gaze lowered, she supports her son as his head and right arm hang down. The depiction bears similarities to Our Lady of the Seven Sorrows of Lede, a medieval pietà that, according to tradition, has been venerated there since 1414. The emphasis is on Mary’s grief and the bond between mother and son. Beneath Christ’s feet is a skull, a reference to Golgotha and to Adam, whose sin is redeemed through Christ’s sacrifice.

Height: 30 cm; in good overall condition, with a crack running from the underside into the base.

Please look carefully at the photos; they form part of the description.

Shipped with track and trace.
