Description from the seller
Set of 11 glasses for sweet wine (passito) or liqueurs, measuring 7.4 cm high x 5.5 cm in diameter, and a bottle with stopper measuring 26.5 cm high x 10.5 cm in diameter. Made of refined, clear Venetian mouth-blown glass, each glass features a charming hand-engraved, frosted design reminiscent of the sophisticated styles of the 18th century. The engraved motifs, featuring interlacing patterns, leaves, scrolls, and noble figures, lend timeless charm that is sure to catch the eye on any occasion. Perfect for enhancing your evenings and ensuring impeccable service, these glasses are an elegant addition to your collection. Their classic beauty makes them ideal for any event, from formal dinners to more intimate gatherings. The glasses are from the S.I.V.A. (Società Industrie Vetrarie Artistiche) M. Indovino Venezia glassworks. They are Italian antique glassware and collectibles, dating approximately to the first decade of the 20th century. They are decorated with acid-etched designs, wheel engraving, or themed details and finishes. The glasses have a slightly flared shape (an inverted truncated cone) and rest on a thick, sturdy base with a ring. The decoration is in the Baroque style, featuring an engraving of a lady with a gentleman. Founded and run in Venice during the 20th century, the SIVA glassworks—whose production was particularly active and highly regarded in the first half of the century, around the 1910s–1930s—was Mario Indovino’s company, specializing in the creation of high-quality art glass and tableware sets. SIVA was renowned for its skill in acid etching and hand-finishing. This technique produced the characteristic cameo effect, velvety and softly shaded, perfect for dynamic botanical and leafy figures (such as the juggler/dancer on the balloon glass). The pieces bore their original paper label: an oval or rectangular label reading SIVAM INDOVINO VENEZIA. They are highly sought after in the market for antiques and fine art glass collectibles.
