Wooden puppet with a long articulated beak, representing the stylised head of a wading bird.  A high crest in an open-worked panel emerges from the skull.  Decorative motifs are painted in alternating bright colours.  Animal representations are very present in the Bambara theatre, the bird becomes the messenger of the hereafter, related to the original myth.  Object placed on a stand. 
Besides their remarkable masks, the Bozo and the Bambara are renowned for their puppets in varied dimensions, frequently articulated, exhibited during the theatre of the Sogow bo puppets, organised at the initiative of the youth of the villages, mainly in the region of Ségou, and which plays an educational role. 
In Mali, the invention of the puppet is attributed to the spirits of the bush, which had abducted Toboji Centa, a Bozo fisherman.
