PROVENANCE: From a Belgian family, collected before 1957
Wood, light brown cotton wraps ( originally colored red but lost the pigmentation due to expositin to the sunlight UV's ), feathers and earth on this Yaka, standing power and protective figure, yiteke, with magical substance wrapped around the body, in good condition.
Those figures where empowered by the Nganga to heal and protect.
Dry patina on the face, clear signs of aging ( shrinked wood waves )

The Yaka people habit the wooded plateau and savanna areas between the Kwango and Wamba rivers in southwestern Congo (Kinshasa) directly bordering Angola on the west. Yaka is an ethnic name given to the people of several heritages, including those related to the nearby Suku.
