On the 25th August 2016, it was announced that Jasper Cillessen had signed a contract with FC Barcelona for €13 million plus another €2 million in add-ons. He made his debut on the 10th September 2016. In his first season he won the Copa del Rey title after a 3─1 victory in the final. He was the starting goalkeeper throughout the tournament. He also played a Champions League match against Borussia Mönchengladbach. In his second season with the team he won the Copa del Rey title again, and he also won the La Liga title. In the Copa del Rey final against Sevilla he provided the assist for the first goal.
He made his debut with the Netherlands national team in a friendly against Indonesia on the 7th June 2013.
On the 13th May 2014, Cillessen was included by the Netherlands national team coach Louis Van Gaal in the provisional list of 30 players for the 2014 Brazil FIFA World Cup. He was finally named in the definitive 23-player list on the 31st May. Cillessen was the starting goalkeeper in all the games played by the Netherlands. The team's opening match was particularly remarkable. The Netherlands hammered Spain, the defending champions, in a 5─1 victory. The Netherlands reached the semi-finals, and finished the tournament in third place.
