*Condition: Near perfect. The glass is in perfect condition. Enamelware somewhat worn out. INCLUDING THE ORIGINAL KEY!

Baccarat and Jean-François Robert (1778 - circa 1855):
In 1764, King Louis XV of France granted prince Bishop Cardinal Louis-Joseph de Laval-Montmorency (1761-1802) permission to establish a glass factory in the city of Baccarat. Initially, the production consisted of windows, mirrors, and glassware, but from 1816 fine and decorative crystal was made by the factory, as well as enamelled and opaline glass. 
Jean-Francois Robert was originally a painter and pupil of Jean-Louis Demarne (1752-1829), before focusing on painting on porcelain and opaline.
From 1837 to 1855 Jean Francois Robert lead the most important decoration studio of opaline glass. This studio was located in Sèvres next to the Manufacture Royale. Robert had developed a compound for polychrome enamel, previously used on porcelain, which could now also be applied to glass; a process patented in 1837/1838. His motives, derived from the classical repertoire of nineteenth-century flower painters, are always performed with meticulous realism.
