Cover page elegantly placed within a frame painted by hand, in blue, red and gold. Many illuminated red and blue drop caps in the text. 

Binding with coats of arms - in full parchment - of Pope Pius VI Braschi of Cesena (Refined bibliophile, 1717 - 1799). 
Pp. 244; c. 122a, of which the first has a handwritten index on the front.
Colophon: "Finis Constitutiorum Clementinarum anno a nativitate domini Mccccdxxxiii (1483) die tertia Mensis Julii". 
Roma, Stephan Plannk. Copy with wide margins on crisp and clear paper. Some coeval notes. 

"Incipiunt Constitutiones Clementis Pape V una cum apparatu domini Ioannis Andree"
Pope Clement had officially promulgated the Clementinae in a consistory held in Monteaux, on March 21, 1314, during the so-called "Avignonese Captivity". 
The comment, or ordinary glossa, is the work of the Bolognese lawyer Giovanni d'Andrea.

Binding in full parchment with the coat of arms of Pius VI framed by a golden frieze with tassels, engraved in gold on the two plates; originally "Di rosso, alla pianta di giglio fiorita e fogliata al naturale, piantata su di una pianura di verde, curvata dal soffio d'argento del vento Borea di carnagione e movente dal cantone destro del capo; col capo d'argento caricato di tre stelle d'oro a otto punte. Nel primo e nel quarto d'oro, all'aquila bicipite di nero spiegata; nel secondo e nel terzo d'azzurro, alla fascia d'argento caricata di tre stelle a sei punte e accompagnata da due gigli d'argento".
This book was in the hands of Pius VI, defeated on 10 February 1798, by Napoleon who had him deported to France, where he died shortly afterwards (that of the "Marchese del Grillo").

Traditionally the Clementinae took the name of Liber septimus of the decrees, after the five of Pope Gregory IX and the Liber Sextus of Pope Boniface VIII. Clement V, the first pope of the Avignone captivity, had a vision of the Church first of all as a "stable organisation", with a strong focus on economic aspects.
Born Bertrand de Got or Gouth (Villandraut, 1264 – Roquemaure, 20 April 1314) was the 195th Pope, from 1305 until his death. He is remembered for suppressing the order of the Templars (1307) and for transferring the Holy See to France.

Johannes Andreae (1275?-1348)
Giovanni d'Andrea (Rifredo, circa 1270 – Bologna, 1348) was an Italian jurist. He was an expert in canon law.
