A very lovely edition of Émile ou De l'éducation which is an educational treatise on "the art of training men" published in 1762. 

It remains, even today, one of the most widely read and popular works on the topic, so much so that in Japan, the authority on child development requires all kindergarten teachers to read it.

The first four books describe the ideal upbringing of a fictional young boy, Emile, and are arranged chronologically, addressing, step by step, the educational issues that emerge as he grows up. 

The last book deals with "education", or rather the lack of education of girls with another fictional example: Sophie, raised and educated to be Emile's wife.

Bindings in good condition, works in their period brown full leather bindings, covers and spines in good condition, a small cut on one of the spines, adorned spines, gilded titling on morocco labels, volume number labels.
