Boldini did not limit himself to portraying women, capturing their beauty to satisfy his clients, he did something more, managing to grasp in each of them a distinctive trait, something that made them unique, because even the most shining beauty, without its uniqueness, is but a mere exercise in style.

Boldini also has another merit. If de Toulouse-Lautrec has told of the wild nights of the Belle Epoque, in which women's perfume mixed with the smell of sweat and that of absinthe, Boldini managed to tell us about the most elegant side of Europe at the turn of the twentieth century: busy with salons, ephemeral, extremely vain. Indeed.
