Nicolas Potel candidly describes the 2006 growing season as "one where we had no disease pressure at all until June where a bit of mildew was found with a bit more in the Côte de Beaune than the Côte de Nuits. Sugars were strong, from a low of 11.5 to a high of 14% and I made the decision to touch nothing. The level of phenolic ripeness varied but in general, it wasn't as high as we obtained in 2003 and 2005. I went with a normal cuvaison of 15 to 18 days but also with a relatively soft vinification. 

A very spicy and seductive black fruit nose reveals undertones of earth and even a hint of game that can be found on the powerful, big, rich and robust flavors that possess real size and weight, especially in the context of the 2006 vintage that delivers more spice on the sappy and admirably long finish. This is an impressively-scaled Ech and while not necessarily an elegant wine, there is plenty of character and mid-palate concentration.
