'Edwin Ray Lankester (London, 15 May 1847 – 13 August 1929) was a British zoologist who mainly specialised in invertebrates. He was the first to demonstrate the kinship between horseshoe crabs and arachnids. Lankester was a co-founder in 1887 of the Marine Biological Association in Plymouth and an active advocate of rationalism (...). Lankester was knighted in 1907 and was called ‘Sir’ since. The Linnean Society of London awarded him the Darwin-Wallace Medal in 1908.
