Original Axa comic strip by Romero from 1979. Technique: Indian ink on pencil, on cardboard paper. Size: 50 x 17,5 cm. Two ink stamps on the back: "Received 29 May 1979 Now-Sun Art Library" and "Sun used 29 May 1979". In perfect condition.

AXA is a series of fantasy and science fiction comics, starring the character of the same name, created by Enrique Badía Romero with screenwriter Donne Avenell and initially published as a newspaper strip in the British newspaper The Sun between 1978 and 1985.

Enrique Badía Romero or simply "Romero" is a Spanish comic artist born in Barcelona on April 24, 1930, older brother of the also cartoonist Jorge Badía Romero (Jobaro) with whom he teamed up in occasions. In the mid-1940s he became an assistant to the prestigious cartoonist Emilio Freixas. In 1947, recommended by Freixas himself, Romero made his solo debut in El Coyote magazine. In 1952, together with García Lorente and Ramón Monzón, he founded an academy for the teaching of drawing by correspondence. He also began working as an illustrator for sticker albums (Wrestling Men, 1956). In 1957 he started working at the Bruguera Publishing House, which supplied material to the Fleetway London publishing house, although it would soon go to Ibero Mundial, specifically in its collections "Claro de Luna" and "Lilian, azafata del aire". Romero then decided to direct his production abroad, through agencies such as Josep Toutain's Selecciones Ilustradas. After several years making two specific series for Fleetway and several stories for the American Warren Publishing, in 1970 the London newspaper Evening Standard, for which he made a daily strip, proposed him to replace Jim Holdaway as cartoonist for the famous series Modesty Blaise by Peter O'Donnell. Thanks to the popularity of the character, which he drew in principle until 1978, Romero acquired a great reputation in the medium outside of Spain. 
In 1976 he drew for the French publishing house Vaillant several episodes of the series Rahan by Roger Lecureux and André Chéret, ending his collaboration due to disagreements with the creator shortly after. In 1978 Romero managed to create his own daily strip, Axa, for the London newspaper The Sun, which ran until 1984. Romero was again hired to continue Modesty Blaise from 1986, strip that the cartoonist combined with several "revivals" of Axa.
