African elephant headdress mask of the Babanki, Cameroon. 
Length 44 cm

This object consists of a wooden mask in its authentic shapes and is used in ceremony. 

The use of elephant masks (horizontally worn on the head, see photo) is seen as a special privilege, because the elephant, just like the leopard, is a royal animal. These masks appear in festive ceremonies and are worn by the members of the elephant society who are closely involved with the king. This item is in good condition, small chip on the eye, ear and nose because of the use.
