No 1 Brownie, the camera put on the market by Kodak to popularise photography among children (and to increase film sales!) The first Brownies from 1900 closed with a lid on a box, but in 1901 a metal strip was added to the back as a closure. The first model is hard to find, very expensive and only produced for 4 months. This camera has the last patent date of 1903 and is in excellent condition, which is special for a camera that children used 120 years ago. This Brownie No 1 is model B with red print, the film transport key is removable and therefore often gone but present here. The front plate is also removable and the shutter works well. On top of the camera, lines are visible that determine the angle of view. Also included is the original wooden film spool for 120 film that was first used in the Brownies.
