Memoir on the Pearly Nautilus (Nautilus Pompilius, Linn.) With Illustrations of Its External Form and Internal Structure. By Richard Owen.
1832 First Edition, London : Printed by Richard Taylor ... Sold by W. Wood, ... .
pp: [ii], 66.
15 plates consisting of 8 fine stipple engravings by Zeitter after drawings by Richard Owen, along with their facing outline counterpart plates and tissue guards in between [plate no. 8 was not issued with a counterpart].
Large quarto sized (295mm X 232mm) volume in original purple cloth boards and black spine label with gilt lettering.
Condition: Binding is sturdy with light bumps to fore-corners, and there is some extensive loss of cloth to spine; spine label however, remains very clear. Internally, all is very sound indeed: inner hinges are not split, and the text block is near-pristine being bright and crisp throughout - the only flaws that I can see are three isolated small spots to first page, a few very pale spots to title-page, and some very pale and scattered foxing to end-papers. Plates are sharp and crisp, albeit slightly age-goldened, and all are present, including their tissue guards.
Weight including sturdy packaging: 1-1.2kg
