Ford - Cortina 1600E GT Mk2 - 1970

This Ford Cortina is a very rare and original 1600E version delivered new in Italy, as shown in the registration certificate. The ‘E’ version is the most sought after MK2 4-door model, and it was designed for the high-end segment of the market. The set-up combined the lowered distribution of the Lotus Cortina with the powerful 1600 Kent of the GT versions and with luxury interior. This had a dashboard and side panels made of genuine walnut wood, sports steering wheel and full instrument set. Externally, the 1600E had a black grille and Rostyle rims, and the inscription ‘FORD’ in capital letters, chrome stripes above and below the headlights.

The bodywork is still in its rare and special ‘Fern Green metallic’ colour, it was painted some years ago and is still in beautiful condition with some imperfections, while the interior compartments are still original.

Interior is original, with the beautiful sports instruments, an intact dashboard and all very rare woodwork in place. One seam is unstitched on the back seat, but it can be easily repaired.

The engine is in working order as well as the gearbox, brakes and clutch; the previous owner installed an original sports manifold of the time with original Weber 40DCOE twin carburettor, as on the Lotus version,
that were recently cleaned and tuned, and they just enhance the beautiful sound of the 1600 cc engine.

The underbody is original, without any traces of significant accidents and with normal signs of use consistent with the age of the car. It can be used and the Italian periodic technical inspection is in order.

The car starts immediately and runs, very fun to drive, the technical inspection was passed in June 2022 and is valid until June 2024. However, it is a direct purchase from the previous owner, therefore some normal, basic maintenance work to improve the car may be needed at the discretion of the new buyer.
