Original pen and ink strip ‘Carol Day’ by David Wright (1912-1967).

This strip is very stylish and beautifully executed. Carol has an air of timeless elegance and beauty in this piece.

The various inking techniques throughout are astounding.

All original word balloons are still attached as well as the title. The board has publisher's marks in the margins and an original Artist Agent sticker on the reverse.

Carol Day was a strip that appeared in the Daily Mail 1956 onward, and was syndicated to many other papers and in other languages.

The shading for the details in dots is achieved by adhering letraset ‘letratone’ over the original ink. This was a very common practice in newspaper strip artwork.

David Wright became famous in Britain during the 1940s and 1950s as a pin-up artist working for ‘The Sketch’, and went on to create Carol Day for many years.
