This beautifully inked Strip by the original Modesty Blaise artist Jim Holdaway has an interesting history.

It was given to John M Burns along with a handful of others by the publisher in order to learn the intimate details of the main characters when he took over drawing the strip in 1978. The strip has been handled by both artists, possibly explaining a few of the marching marks.

The fabulous strip is presented with a completely sold out limited edition book ‘The Art of Modesty Blaise’, which explores work by the 5 Modesty Blaise strip artists; Holdaway, Romero, Burns, Wright & Colvin, but also a try out by Frank Hampson, artist of Dan Dare!

This early strip (No 650) features a lot of deep black inking and beautiful details classic to Holdaway.

The reverse of the illustration board has the original rubber stamps and also a period newspaper clipping fixed on.

The board has not been stripped off it’s backing, unlike so many others.

All lettering is impeccably hand-written straight onto the board-no stuck on word balloons.

This is a true collector’s item due to its beauty and history.
