This is a very nice original, "Box of Ward" steel key for a safe/strongbox from the Georgian Era, late 18th century. It has a Georgian wire bow, a very complicated, maze-like bit with half-radiused cuts. The warded bit is very large and is high quality. The key is uncleaned and has a lovely original patina. It has a nice weight in the hand. A very rare and collectable key which represents the highest security in England before the invention of tumblers/levers.
