Original Book of Hours - Horae B.M.V - Latin manuscript on vellum

197 sheets. 12 sheets of calendar, Complete.

Small and precious book of hours with several splendid decorated initials, three miniatures in colors and gold with rich figurative and floral borders, numerous two-line initial in gold and colors.

Probably southern Netherlands (Geldern) , the bishop named Amandus in the  calendar (February) comes from Maastricht and is particularly revered there. The location is also matching with the repeated coat of arms , a rearing lion on blue background, which refers to the Duchy of Geldern: from this we can assume that the book of hours could have belonged to a member of the ducal family.

The book of hours is contained in a customized box with red velvet interiors.

Book size: approx. 9,7 cm X 6,7 cm X 3,8  cm

Provenance: acquired in 2016 from a German antiquarian bookseller.  Old handwritten owning  title of a a B. B. Edwards with the indication that the book of hours was "presented to E.A. Park by Mrs. Edwards on July 1852".

The items belongs to my private collection and will be shipped from Luxembourg (insured delivery is recommended).
