A very large early 18th century, Kangxi period Yixing bulbous shaped teapot with applied decoration depicting Buddhist scrolling lotus vines and flowers on the body. The lid has Buddhist symbols applied on it.  

Such a large teapots would be especially produced for wealthy customers in the west and due to it's large rather impractical size, would be a considered a status symbol. Tea was a very expensive commodity in the early 18th century and filling this teapot with tea and serving it to your guests would cost a small fortune per serving.  

A increasingly rare to find teapot! Please see a 100ml Yixing teapot as a size reference.

Dimension: 
H15 x W29 x W18,5 cm

Condition: The lid has 3 small chip on the rim, the spout has been reinforced with silver mouting, small piece of applied decoration is missing on the knob and the base shows shrinkage cracks due to firing. 

Checked with strong UV light for defects. Some dirt collected in the applied decoration lights up, but no modern restorations found.
