Adler è un marchio tedesco che è stato il primo nel paese a produrre macchine da scrivere in serie dal 1898. Ha iniziato a produrre biciclette e automobili nel 1886, e dopo aver acquistato diversi brevetti americani per la prime macchine da scrivere, iniziarono a realizzarle con grande successo.
Contessa viene dalla Germania, ma ha la sensualità sinuosa e la personalità brillante generalmente associate al design italiano. Anche il nome Adler - Contessa - ha origini italiane.
