Frans Schrofer is een wereldwijd bekende ontwerper die in meer dan 150 landen ontwerpen heeft gemaakt voor verschillende frabrikanten.

In het begin van zijn carrière creëerde Schrofer verschillende verlichtingsontwerpen (voor het Nederlandse bedrijf Scopelight en Indoor of Amsterdam), waaronder de Plume (1990), een lamp waarvan de metalen componenten zo ingewikkeld waren dat de precisie-engineeringvaardigheden van instrumentmakers moesten worden gebruikt voor de productie.
