Filippo Piras

Jan Wesseling (1935-1999) is best bekend als illustrator, maar hij heeft ook veel strips gemaakt tijdens zijn lange carrière. In de Tweede Wereldoorlog werd Weeselingj naar Duitsland gestuurd, waar hij portretten van overleden en vermiste familieleden van mensen te tekenen. Na de oorlog werd hij tijdens de Politie-acties naar de Duch-kolonie Indonesië gestuurd. Eenmaal terug in Nederland vond hij werk bij reclamebureaus, maar in 1956 ging bij werken bij de Marten Toonder Studios. Hij werkte oorspronkelijk aan 'Koning Hollewijn' en 'Tom Poes', maar zijn bekendste werk uit deze periode is 'Marion'. Dit melodramatische stripverhaal was op dat moment een van de weinige ballonstrips die Toonder produceerde. Wesseling ging steeds meer illustreren, maakte romantische tekeningen voor vrouwentijdschriften zoals Rosita, en illustreerde 'Pipo de Clown' tekstverhalen voor Donald Duck. Wesseling maakte illustraties voor tijdschriften zoals Donald Duck, Okki, Jippo, Taptoe, Bobo, Tina, Revu en Margriet. Jan Wesseling heeft ook coverillustraties gemaakt voor vele beroemde kinderboeken, zoals 'Oorlogswinter' van Jan Terlouw, 'Oorlog zonder Vrienden' van Evert Hartman en de 'Thule' trilogie van Thea Beckman. 

Deze kavel bevat een prachtige, grote schildering, door Jan Wisseling, gemaakt voor de cover van het boek 'De witte Harley', geschreven door Henjo Hekman. Zie de laatste foto als voorbeeld van de uiteindelijke publicatie. Deze dient als voorbeeld en is niet bij deze kavel inbegrepen.
