A very rare large antique 19th century Parapat sword of the Borneo Murut people famed as headhunters and the last tribe in Indonesia to (officially) renounce headhunting as a cultural practice.
The sword comprises a very thick beautifully laminated blade that exhibits a excellent distal taper to the tip. It is extremely well balanced and has no nicks or damages (see images). The scabbard has some repair towards the tip and the hilt has a very old and patinated loss of one of the bulbous knobs, which attests to the blade's age.
This rare sword is in excellent condition for its age and is a fine example of this type. Total length in scabbard - 90cm; sword length 86cm; blade length 69cm.
