Beautiful and expressive pair of French Art Deco ceramic bookends, dating from the 1930s.

The set features the timeless and romantic figures of Pierrot and Columbine from the Italian Commedia dell'arte. The figures are designed in the distinctive, streamlined and geometric style typical of the Art Deco period.

The pieces are executed in glazed earthenware with a lovely, pale creamy-yellow or beige colour, allowing the elegant, stylised forms to speak for themselves. The figures are seated upon rectangular plinths, designed to act as stable bookends.

Condition : Good, although there is an old repair on the neck of the Pierrot figure, see all pictures to make an informed decision, they are part of the description.
