'Red Beaber' armchair and ottoman.

Frank Gehry's production of corrugated carboard furniture is vast and highly stimulating, yet overall experimental and impossible to commercialise, for obvious reasons. Except for simple items such as the Wiggle series, it has been mostly prototypes seen in museums and monographies. However, Vitra actually manufactured this monumental throne, the Beaber, twice in the 80s: a regular carboard version in 1987 and this 'Red Beaver' in 1980. 45 years after such limited release, this is a true museum piece for design collectors and enthusiasts. 

This design is, in its own nature, fragile and set to decay. Every unit made was shaped uniquely with its own irregular and exposed contours. The chair's (and footstool) condition today is excellent considering, still solidly assembled and in perfect shape and integrity, with only small flakes and fractures testimony of its design concept and biography as an object. A rare and sublime piece in superb condition for its age.

The chair will be carefully wrapped and safely shipped inside a pallet.

Another set of carboard nesting tables by Frank Gehry, limited edition by Vitra, is for sale simultenaously. Combined shipment with other lots in this auction is offered for no extra cost.
