Paul Anton Hannong after Paul-Louis Cyfflé - sculpture "Henri IV et Sully"
The model, made by Paul-Louis Siflet in Lunéville, is inspired by an engraving by Antoine-Jean Duclos after the work of Hubert-François Gravelot illustrating Collet's work. The painting represents the famous scene between Henry IV and his faithful minister. Sally, holding his hat in his left hand, kneels before the king, who, taking him by the hand, calls him to stand up. The group is mounted on a high pedestal decorated with laurel garlands.

The Frankenthal porcelain factory was founded in 1755 by the Gannong family, who had previously produced porcelain and also Strasbourg faience in Strasbourg until Louis XVI established a state monopoly on porcelain in favor of the Sèvres factory and closed all others. Carl Gannong moved his enterprise to an empty barracks in Frankenthal, near Mannheim, and staffed it with his own workers from Strasbourg, under a privilege granted by the local ruler, Elector Charles Theodore of Bavaria, who himself visited the factory the following year when production was already in full swing. In 1757, additional craftsmen from Meissen porcelain were hired, and in 1759 Gannong was able to open a shop in Strasbourg.
